There are a lot of misconceptions about 12 Step, and if you attend your first AA meeting with a decision already made, you probably won't get much out of it. Later, different members of the meeting read sections of AA literature, such as the book Alcoholic Anonymous (commonly known as The Big Book) and Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions. It's not mandatory for anyone to do so, but the AA tradition is maintained that when an alcoholic asks for help, AA's helping hand is there. If you decide to share your story, one of the most common fears about AA meetings is that other people will try to talk to you or interrupt you.
